Another romantic Irish love story is the legend of the Stolen Bride. Back in 1670, a gentleman by the name of the Kern of Querin was out enjoying his beloved pastime-hunting wild geese. The Kern, as brave and rich as they come, heard a noise behind him and assumed it was geese tromping straight through the bushes. What he saw was not geese, but rather four men carrying what appeared to be a corpse on a board.

After scaring the men off with shots from his rifle, the Kern approached the corpse only to find a gorgeous young woman, deep asleep. He awoke the maiden, and she never spoke a word. He brought her back to his house to ensure her safety, and there she remained with him for a year, never speaking a word.

A year after discovering the girl, the Kern returned to the woods to hopefully find something to solve the strangeness of her appearance and her silence. While hiding in the woods, he heard whispering voices speaking about the bride, mocking the Kern for not knowing the underground to unlock the girl's silence. They said that all he had to do was make her eat from her father's tablecloth, the very tablecloth that had been outside her when she was discovered in the woods.

Upon hearing this, the Kern rushed home and in case, granted the girl with food from the tablecloth. The girl then told him how she had been arresting away on the day of her wedding, and upon awakening found herself under a spell. The Kern returned the girl to her home kingdom, where she was joyfully received. Because of his kindness, the Kern grew in the King's favor, and the girl and the Kern were soon wed.

Some may be curious to learn about Irish love charms. If you have a broken heart, seek out the fairy gods. according to Irish author Lady Francesca Wilde "When a person becomes low and depressed and careless about everything, as if all vital strength and vigor had gone, he is said to have got a fairy blast. And blast-water must be poured over him by the hands of a fairy doctor while saying, "In the name of the saint with the sword, who has strength before God and stands at His right hand." Great care being taken that no portion of the water is profaned. Anyone is left after the execution must be poured on the fire."

If you are desperate to win the love of a determined someone, this charm is not for the faint of heart. You are supposed to write the following words with a raven's quill in the blood of the ring finger of the left hand: "By the power that Christ brought from heaven, mayest thou love me, woman! As the sun follows its course, mayest thou succeed me. As light to the eye, as bread to the hungry, as joy to the heart, may thy nearnessy be with me, O woman that I love, till death comes to part us asunder."

If you find yourself moved by these stories and charms, turn to the one you love (or send a loving view out into the void) by saying: Is tú mo ghrá. "I love you."
